bio

Josh Johnson brings 20 seasons of volleyball coaching experience to FVP, including 12 seasons coaching high school girls and 8 seasons coaching girls club volleyball at both the National and Regional levels.

At a young age, he told his parents that he didn’t feel right, prompting a quick trip to the hospital for some x-rays. The results revealed that Josh had several extra muscles, an extra heart and an extra funny bone. The doctor’s diagnosis? He was simply “built different.”

Josh’s first true love was the cartoon He-Man, followed closely by basketball. He played basketball at Homestead High School and continued his career at St. Norbert College, where he earned a degree in Elementary Education.

Volleyball came into Josh’s life later, when he was looking for a new challenge. His transition from player to coach was heavily influenced by Hall of Fame Neenah coach Bruce Moriarty, who took Josh under his wing and helped shape his approach to the game and to coaching.

Josh loves working with young athletes and helping them become the best versions of themselves. His coaching style is built around finding the balance between having fun and being completely locked in—creating an environment where athletes can enjoy the game while still being willing to do whatever it takes to get better.

Josh’s personal coaching philosophies are simple:

“Little things make a BIG difference. Do all of the little things very well, and it makes a big difference.”

“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”

When he’s not coaching, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and their three kids, Elsa, Langston, and Kendall. He also enjoys playing volleyball, working out, cottage life, eating, watching movies, and smiling. Smiling is his favorite.
